On-scalp MEG at NatMEG
We are excited to announce that NatMEG has procured an internationally competitive whole-head on-scalp MEG system. Benchmark recordings are taking place during the first half of 2024. The new osMEG system uses optically pumped magnetometer (OPM) sensors, a new type of quantum enhanced sensors that can measure closer to the scalp than conventional MEG sensors. Simulations have shown that by coming closer to the head (and the neural sources therein) osMEG can achieve higher sensitivty and spatial precision compared to conventional MEG.
The new system is integrated into the existing NatMEG infrastructure and will be made available to users during in 2024.
If you want to learn more about this exciting new technology check out the talks from our on-scalp MEG symposium held on May 3rd 2022 and the on-scalp MEG system inauguration at NatMEG on April, 12th 2024 where leading experts in the field discussed the latest developments in instrumentation, methods and applications.
The on-scalp MEG platform at NatMEG is funded by a grant from Vetenskapsrådet, the Swedish Research Council.
